Winter Comes
A downloadable game for Windows
Legend tells of the cycle of rulers of this land, ill fated to have their kingdom purged by the ice giants on the eve of their tenth winter as monarch.
Will you break the cycle? Can you maintain your kingdom for 10 years of glory? Or will you let your subjects meet their doom by the hand of icy invaders?
About
Winter Comes is a resource management card game I made for the Extra Credits Game Jam #3.
The current GOAL is simple: last 10 years as monarch and get your population to 1000, if it dips below zero or if you fail to reach 1000 by the end of year 10, you lose.
While ruling, you will earn resource points per season, which can be affected by the cards you play, random events which may pop up, and your ruler's personality.
Controls and Gameplay
Drag and drop cards from your hand into the queue to play them, they will then begin to build and the listed effects will affect your points as indicated once they have finished building in the queue. Cards will take as long to build in the queue as indicated in the upper left of the card art.
Card effects suffixed by an 'R' are "Repeated" effects, which will affect the point rate (indicated below the appropriate point value, in parentheses). The point rate will affect the point value on a per season basis.
You may Draw up to 10 cards at any time, drawing cards costs either 10 gold or 10 food (depending on which is selected below the draw button). If your hand is full, you can Purge your hand for either military points or monarch points, which costs 2 of the respective point per card purged.

Post Mortem
I originally wanted to cram more goodness into the project, but, steeped in persistent bugs, I fell short on time. For example, the little world at the top was ideally going to fill with people and buildings as you played cards, but that had to be cut for time.
If I had more time to work on it, I would probably add more cards and events, I feel like card diversity is a bit lacking, but less than a day was spent on actual content generation. More traits could also be added, especially to better incentivize trait rerolling.
A warning about some of the bugs that made it into the release, be careful when putting cards into the queue, if you're too fast, it will send the card to into the ether and still eat up a slot in the queue, the same goes for the hand.
